#47 — The calendar is not biology

Continuous glucose monitoring produces a physiologically continuous signal, but almost every analytical framework cuts that signal at midnight because the calendar says so. Glucose metabolism follows circadian process, not calendar convention.

An 89-day CGM series of 25,536 readings was analysed under three temporal representations: conventional 24-hour linear segmentation, higher-resolution linear segmentation, and a circular representation that preserves continuity across midnight. Circular topology preserved measurably more information — 3.56 against 3.18 bits, a gain of 12.1%, p < 0.001 — and midnight segmentation reduced correlation between physiologically adjacent measurements by a factor of 2.8. Raising bin resolution without changing the topology produced no improvement at all, which is the point: the loss is structural, not a matter of granularity.
